LYF are committed to improving the standard of footballers through out the county of West Lothian and our newest bespoke initiative caters for a playing position that is often forgot about.
We have created a specialised Goalkeeping Academy which will provide the opportunity for children aged between 8 and 16 years old to work on developing their skills including shot stopping, handling, positioning and shape.
A goalkeeper is ultimately the last line of defence but can also be the first line of attack, mastering this position requires skill and training.
Our Goalkeeping Academy will run over 9 months of the year and will be taken by Ian McCaldon who is an ‘A’ Licensed Goalkeeping coach and former professional goalkeeper with Livingston FC, Oxford United, Chester City and Ross County.
Ian is also the current Scotland Ladies Goalkeeping Coach.
Participants will work on a number of different aspects including but not limited to:
- Shot stopping
- Recovery saves
- Reflex saves
- Dealing with crosses
The first session will take place on Thursday the 2nd of October 2014.
You can find more information and download the application form here:

Over the coming months the Foundation will be launching a number of new and exciting initiatives that link directly into one of the organisations key aims – Engaging Communities.
The Foundation are delighted to present our:
The Reminiscence Programme from LYF has been designed to support adults who have Dementia. The LYF programme involves participants in a number of sporting and football related activities, specifically suited to their individual abilities. At the heart of all of these activities, LYF will utilise the powerful tool of reminiscing as a way to communicate with the participants who take part. The initiative will take place on a monthly basis (two groups) with each session lasting for a maximum of two hours. The programme will span eight months in total.
LYF’s reminiscence programme is unique as we will be involving students from local high schools throughout West Lothian in the groups and sessions. The Sixth Year students will provide a ‘buddy’ system to the participants who take part in the initiative.
An essential part of the ‘buddy’ system is that the students will be collating a personal memories book that will record the participant’s interactions throughout the programme and will be presented as a keepsake at the end of the programme. The students also benefit from learning about Dementia, gaining a sense of community and their relationship with it.
The first local high school to take part in the initiative is Inveralmond Community High School. The students have taken part in their training activities and are now ready for the sessions to begin. Below is a photograph of a selection of the students who are taking part in the programme:
LYF will be working closely with Football Memories (Alzheimer Scotland), West Lothian Community Health and Care Partnership and Livingston Football Club. The programme is funded by the SPFL Trust.

It is with mixed emotions that the Foundation need to announce that our long serving full time Community Coach, Shaun Scobie will be leaving the organisation.
Shaun has been delivering a wide range of our projects and activities since the Foundation was formed. His commitment and professionalism has been second to none, and there is no doubt that he will be missed.
Shaun has been offered the opportunity to further advance his coaching career in the USA with Kitsap Pumas.
Kitsap Pumas is a professional football team, or soccer as the American’s like to call it, based in Bremerton, Washington. The club was formed in 2008 and plays in the USL Premier Development League or PDL for short.
The PDL is the fourth tier of the American Soccer Pyramid, in the Northwest Division of the Western Conference.
Shaun will be taking up the role of Technical Director and Assistant Coach to the 1st team.
Although we are sad to see Shaun leave, we can’t hold him back form this great opportunity.
Everyone at the Foundation would like to wish Shaun good luck for the future and we are looking forward to our “vacation” invites!
Shaun’s last activity for the Foundation will be leading the Summer Camp being held on the newly upgraded filed turf at the rear of the Energy Assets Arena in Livingston.
The camp runs from Monday the 21st of July until Friday 25th of July. We have a half day camp running from 10am until 12 noon and a full day camp running from 10am until 3pm.
We still have places available on each course and it would be a great way to say goodbye to Shaun. Shaun’s last day will be on Thursday the 24th of July.
If you would like to attend the course please contact us on email@example.com
Livingston Youth Foundation are delighted to announce that we are currently looking to recruit a number of new coaches to join our team.
The new coaching roles will be based throughout West Lothian and will deliver the Foundations new Primary School Futsal Initiative.
West Lothian currently has over 200 children involved in Futsal, mainly during the school holiday periods. A key outcome of the Primary School Futsal Initiative is to increase participation levels in grassroots football with regular participation in structured Futsal activities. The initiative will improve playing standards, focusing participation within schools to further maximise the opportunities available for children to develop their core football competencies in a new way, which can then be translated into the 11-a-side format.
The successful applicants will work from Livingston Youth Foundations offices with the majority of their time spent delivering practical Futsal sessions to various Primary Schools throughout the county.
The initiative will take place during curriculum time.
If you would like to apply for this excellent opportunity please forward your CV with a covering letter to:
The closing date for all applications is Friday the 1st of August.

Fun in the sun
Let's master those skills
Saturday the 5th of July witnessed our first activities taking place on the newly upgraded Field Turf.
Our Counter Weight and Equity classes thought the new surface was excellent and thoroughly enjoyed being the first participants to be allowed to use the facility.
Our Micro Academy for season 2013/2014 came to a close on Thursday 26th June with our participants taking part in a fun session that involved lots of game time, 10 second challenges and cross bar challenges.
A highlight of the session was getting to meet Livingston FC’s first team manager John McGlynn and his assistant Mark Burchill, along with a number of the players.
Autographs were gained and questions answered!
We are already looking forward to what will be an exciting and skill pack 2014/2015 season. If you would like to get involved in the Micro Academy please contact the Foundation on 01506 403341 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
